For many years I have struggled with wanting to tone up and not really getting anywhere. I would lose a few pounds here and gain it back with a bit extra every time!
I am petite, so I hid the weight well but I always felt soft and definitely never dreamed of wearing a bathing suit without covering up at the beach. I grew up loving sweets and not a day went by I didn’t have something sweet. Sweets made me crave other things like breads, pasta and cheese too. I was always in the mood for something I shouldn’t have on a daily basis. I felt I didn’t have any control over what I put in my mouth.
I signed up for 30 sessions with Changing Shape and I learned how, when, why and what to eat along with an exact training plan. With this in pIace, I finally started to make some progress. I decided to go for the Daily Food Planner and Ian was able to fit a plan into my busy lifestyle and work schedule. I loved how specific the plan was, down to the ideas for quick meals and the breakdowns of amounts of foods to eat. It made it a no brainer to stay on track. It was a daily battle in my mind not to have a cheat meal to satisfy me but after about 6 weeks I didn’t really care. I could see the tone appearing at the back of my arms, the sides of my stomach and across my shoulder blades that I had never seen before…there was no way I was going to stop now!
I was training 3 times per week with Ian and twice by myself and given my already busy work schedule there were a few times I wondered how I was going to accomplish it. I had committed to 10 weeks and I knew that if I could just keep going then the maintenance phase would be a lot easier. I was so delighted with how I felt and I was getting lots of compliments from people so I decided to go for another 10 weeks of personal training. In the photos shown here I have been training for 20 weeks. I have just come back from holiday and I have never felt so confident at the beach!
I am thrilled that I no longer have to have sweets every day and that I can finally start to see my abs! I was right all along, maintaining my fitness and body shape is a lot easier than the journey to get here. I now allow myself 1 day per week where I can eat what I like and the workouts don’t feel nearly as tough as they did at the start.

I have never exercised before. I know this sounds ridiculous but aside from being forced to run around a hockey pitch during P.E. lessons at school I have never exercised. I hated it!!
I came to Changing Shape through a friend who had lost over 2 stones and looked fantastic so I knew that training with Ian must work. Last year, I weighed around 11 and a half stone and after having my second child I was feeling very motivated and ready to start.

When the production team for ITV’s ‘This Time Next Year’ told me they had arranged a personal trainer for me I was both excited and nervous!
The first time I met Ian was on camera surrounded by crew – I was so nervous – this good looking fit guy was about to train me, fat and unfit. I thought I’d let him and myself down. Ian didn’t make me feel like that though; he made me believe in myself. When I was 17 I was 5ft 10” and 9 stone 4lbs. I felt very skinny and was starting to feel insecure about my body but didn’t know how to change it. I began working out but wasn’t sure I was doing it correctly. I certainly wasn’t getting any results.
I contacted Ian because my uncle had trained with him for several years and I knew he was very knowledgeable about fitness, body shaping and nutrition.
Within a couple of workouts I could feel my muscles aching after sessions. I had muscle soreness on my chest, thighs and upper back. It felt great to know that something was finally working. I was also following the detailed nutrition plan that Ian had carefully prepared. It felt strange eating more food at first but it was healthy stuff and it wasn’t long until I started seeing a change in the mirror. Within 12 weeks I had gone from a skinny 9 stone 4lbs to a more brawny 10 stone 8lbs and 18 months later to 12 stone 1lbs(see photo) with an increase of over 6 inches on my chest and 2.5 inches on my arms. Despite this weight gain I managed to lower my body fat slightly from 11% to 8%. I still have a goal of putting on more size and becoming more defined and I feel 13 stone and 7% body fat is achievable by age 20.

I was a little skeptical before going for a consultation for personal training with Changing Shape because it seemed that everything I had tried before didn’t get me results so why would this?
At our first consultation, Ian explained to me that the training and the nutrition plan would be focused on my body type. This made so much sense to me. All these years I had been following generic exercises because I thought they were good for me but nothing it seemed would slim down my large hips and thighs.
Another barrier I had is that I travel 4 days a week with my work. I was concerned about the commitment of training and the preparation of food but Ian assured me he had several clients who travel a lot and still get it done. I decided, I just have to commit and I will find a way.
I booked 20 sessions and planned for 1 personal training session per week. For me though, the precise Training Plan and Daily Food Planner were essential. It was all carefully fitted into my diary. I knew exactly which exercise I needed to do and when and my meals were also planned with military precision. Ian really took into account how I was feeling and so every session was tailored to me and my individual needs.
I’m human, I miss some of the junk food and I still have a little bit of chocolate from time to time and the odd cheat meal but 80-90% of the time I eat very well because it is just not worth it after all the work I have put in. If I do cheat, I’m in the gym working it off the next morning.
So, 5 months later I am 37lbs lighter, 5” off my waist and 6.5” from my hips. I couldn’t be happier with the results and didn’t actually know I had those kind of numbers to lose!
There have been many negative people that have asked me what I was doing and that I looked fine anyway. I broke it down for them…nutrition, fitness plan etc. Often their response was “How do you enjoy life eating like that?” I say “I enjoy feeling better, looking better and having better overall performance and health” which normally keeps them quiet! Ian is a reliable and conscientious trainer and I highly recommend to anyone wanting to get in great shape.

I used to swim for my county when I went to college and considered myself to be pretty fit. That was 20 years ago and the sessions at the swimming baths had been replaced by sessions at the pub.
When I first started training with Changing Shape, my trainer Ian and I set some goals. I decided to be conservative because I wanted the target to seem achievable. I signed up for 10 sessions with an aim to lose 10lbs in 5 weeks and obtain a shape that was less round. I achieved that in 3 weeks and so shifted my targets to concentrate on body fat loss rather than weight per se.
There is great attention to detail in training with Ian. Just by changing my elbow or shoulder position slightly makes all the difference in feeling the exercise working correctly. I was not overweight but unhappy with what I saw in the mirror. I wanted to tone up and change my shape, particularly my stomach. I had been overweight since primary school and had always thought about making a determined effort to lose weight and get in shape but somehow other things in my life had always taken priority. After seeing the photos from our summer holiday in Crete (see here) I was disgusted with how big I had become and decided that by my summer holiday next year I was going to have lost the excess weight and be happy with what I saw! I was nervous before my first session – I could not remember the last time I had exercised – but Ian put me at ease and reassured me that he would not ask me to do anything that I wasn’t capable of. He pushed me but I felt well within my limits. At the end of the session he said I may be aching the next day…he wasn’t joking! After a few choice words I actually felt really positive about shifting the flab for good.
My goal was to lose 3 stones in 1 year, tone up and get into size 16 clothes. I surpassed this, losing 4.5 stone, lowering my body fat from 44% to 27% and fitting comfortably in size 10 clothes! I felt fantastic at our summer holiday this year!

I was first trained by Ian 12 years ago. I had just completed a half marathon and was aerobically very fit. However, I wasn’t happy with my body shape. I felt very skinny and wanted a complete body overhaul.
Within 6 weeks I had put on 5lbs of muscle and my chest had gone from 38” to 40”. I felt fantastic and wanted to keep going.
Ian is a consummate professional and got the best out of me on every session. Even when I felt tired he managed to get me motivated and I always finished the session feeling far better than when I started.
I was very impressed with how specific the goals were. I told Ian I wanted to get the best proportion and symmetry possible and he gave me exact target measurements for each body part. All the training was then geared to get the body I wanted. Within 6 months my chest had increased to 44”, my arms had grown from 11” to 15” and my waist had remained at 32”!
After 5 years, I moved away from the area and so had to stop training with Ian. I found I wasn’t quite as disciplined when training alone and gradually put some weight on (this time it was more fat than muscle!). I did try a couple of other trainers in my area but the level of training wasn’t very good and I wasn’t getting any results.
I decided 9 months ago to see Ian again. I could spare the travel time once per week and I knew he could get me in great shape. Within 9 months of training my body fat had gone from 18% to 7% and my waist had reduced from 36” to 30.4”. I had completely Changed Shape once again and felt and looked even better than I did the first time around!

I came to Ian 10 years ago with a goal to lose fat and tone up. I wasn’t overweight and had kept myself pretty fit over the years by playing regular tennis and going for long walks. However, I definitely wanted my body shape to become more toned and athletic looking.
Within 6 weeks of training I had lost 7lbs of fat and gone down a dress size. My arm circumference reduced by 2.5cm and body fat dropped from 31% to 28%. Within 5 months I had lost a total of 18lbs of fat with body fat percentage at 24%. I am 55 years old. This time last year I felt tired the entire time. I worked 10-12 hours a day and had no time for exercise. My most fit years were behind me. They were my main excuses.
I was on blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride medications. I was also taking oral diabetes pills and on the verge of being placed on insulin. I went for the routine tests 9 weeks after starting training and they came back nearly normal! My haemoglobin A1C (diabetes marker) had previously been 10.7 (5-6 is normal) and was down to 7! So she wanted to retest. When those results returned, they were even better at 6.8.
8 months later and I am off ALL medications with normal lab results on every part of my blood chemistry. These are the results with Changing Shape that I am most proud of. Dropping from 18 stone 2lbs to 13 stone 6lbs and reducing my body fat from 31% to 16% is an added bonus! I not only look and feel better, I’m also not a ticking time bomb anymore.
